2007-2008

December 9th - 16th, 2007:  Wow, does December get crazy or what?!  In a week where I now sit here on Monday the 17th and try to remember what all happened I am at a loss.  Too much activity going on to single out one event so the first weekly journal of the winter season is to follow.

December 22nd, 2007:.     "Hickman's Snowmobile" After going on the "pond" and skating the kids really wanted to get the Sno Scoots out and head to Tapley park.  I worked for a while and got both Scoots filled with gas and had to run uptown and get some oil to fill the reservoirs as well.  Loading them on the trailer along

December 30th, 2007:.     "Snow Play"     Finally a day that the wind wasn't blowing and the temperature was up around 15 degrees.  My dad and mom brought up a couple of their old sleds along with his REV and Mikena and Josie wanted to go out for a ride today.  I had so many things to complete before the New Years Eve party we are hosting tomorrow that I stayed back in the shop to get more areas cleaned and ready for guests as well as beginning the cooking of all the appetizers.

December 31st, 2007:.     "First XP Ride"
Along with all of the other activities this weekend, dad and I worked in a snowmobile ride.  The early December snow we received in the range of 16" has been all we received.  Nearly three weeks have gone by without any meaningful or measurable snow.  The Wadena County groomers...

January 27th, 2008:.     "Snow Play, Finally!"
This has to be a record for Formanek Pond.  14 days with nothing for me to really journal about that had any real interest.  Reasons?  Like always work, but this time work was not the true reason.  IT HAS BEEN FRICKIN' COLD.  The last couple of weeks we have seen temperatures with highs only in the below zero range.  Not that those temperatures are worthy enough to stop all fun...

February 16, 2008:.     "U.P. Primer"
Finally we are heading out of MN for deeper snows and trails of plenty!  All the planning for Bobby Hull coming to visit our backyard rink is now in the hands of Traci and Maas!  Oh God help....

February 17, 2008:.     "Ouch, My Head"

When I woke up this morning around 8am and accessed how my melon was going to be feeling for the day, I was impressed.  No headache!  AJ still sleeping.  Dad... who knows?

February 18, 2008:.     "Deep Snow"

The beds at the motel last night were the worst I have ever slept on.  AJ and my room had two military still beds and they were shot.  Inmate beds in prison is what they reminded me of.  Dad didn't seem to mind his room, but I never really looked at his bed.  I know it was a queen so I am guessing it wasn't left over from the Air Force.

February 19, 2008:.     "Stained Glass"

Onto the sleds and out into the wilderness.  About 10 degrees today.  The trail out of Big Bay had been groomed late afternoon or last night and there was about 4" of snow on top of the table top smooth trail.  It made you feel like you were floating.

February 20, 2008:.     "Is it True?"
Awake at 8am and feeling refreshed.  Dad and I made our way across the street for some breakfast as AJ stayed back getting ready and not real fond of AM food.  The Pines is right across the street from the Mariner North.  The omelet and food was great.  I worked a little bit on journaling

February 21, 2008:.     "Cruise Home"

8am this morning and I packed everything in my bags last night so I didn't have a lot to do.  As I was loading up my bags on the sled and get ready to leave for the last day of our trip I remembered that I hadn't documented one complaint on the XP.  The Ski-Doo mirrors do not hold their position.

April 27, 2008:.
 "The Last Ride... I hope?!"

Crazy times.  From buying The Uptown and all the paperwork I have been completing in the last couple of months to now a snow storm at the end of April.  My guess is that we received more snow...
